About Me:
I am a registered nutritional consultant from Toronto, Ontario. Nutrition is my passion and I plan on solving the health problems of the world through convincing people to eat better, manage stress and to reduce toxic load! I am very concerned about the health of the planet and work to educate my clients on the importance of low carbon diets and organic foods.

I have my own practice, FoodSpark Nutrition, and am particularily skilled in the areas of pediatrics and mental health nutrition. Currently I coordinate a nutrition program at my children's school, John English J.M.S. which I find extremely rewarding.

I am married and have 2 children. My favourite activities include spending time with my family and friends, running, hiking, yoga, listening to and making music, reading, writing, spending time in Muskoka, golfing, cooking (and eating) great food and drinking fine wine.

The Magical, Mysterious Vitamin D

For years we have been hearing about vitamin D deficiency and the long list of illnesses that it can be linked to. While I don't tend to believe in magic bullets, this is one case where I'm going to have to make an exception.

Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to such illnesses as cancer, osteoporosis, heart disease, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, depression, chronic fatigue and general immune dysfunction......and the list goes on.

Ever stop and wonder why the cold and flu season exists?… Continue

Why Buy Local?

Here are several good reasons for buying local foods more often:

- Buying local foods gives us the opportunity to know better the origins of our food from farm to store shelf and helps to create stronger links within communities

- Eating local, seasonally available foods allows us the opportunity to eat the freshest, most nutritious food available and reduces the need for harmful food additives and preservatives

- Supporting our local farmers and businesses results in a healthier local econom… Continue

Nutrition and Mental Health Part I

This is one of my very favorite topics. I have been absolutely astounded by the difference that good nutrition can make in the mental health of people of all ages. Because the body and mind are so closely connected, what we put into our body has a direct affect on how w… Continue

Depressed Because Your Antidepressant Doesn't Work? Don't Be!

Studies show that in cases of mild to moderate depression, modern antidepressants may not work any better than a sugar pill. While I'm a little surprised to learn this, I'm not at all upset by it. These studies may prompt a huge shift in the way that people address mental health and that is an exciting possibility! I fail to see why antidepressants are so often the first line of treatment when depression itself is clearly not caused by a deficiency of Prozac or Zoloft. Our bodies cannot function… Continue

John English J.M.S. Nutrition Program

Hi everyone,

It's been awhile since I've made a post or been an active presence on the site. I've been really busy with a project and I thought I would share some good news. For the past couple of months myself, as well as a few other key people (some of whom are FoodSpark members), have been working hard on starting a nutrition program for my children's school, John English J.M.S. We will start our pilot project by serving a healthy, buffet style lunch one day a week starting this Friday! Lunc… Continue

thanks cindy. it is amazing how many people comment that "yes , that's probably true my dog does eat better than my kids". this is one of the unfortunate things of our times. thanks for setting up this ning. i only just found ning last week and literally this is my first activity on it. after reading some of your blogs i realise we have a lot of our thinking in common. i have a lot of information on my website on some of the topics yo covered such as vitamin D, sunscreen toxicity, cholesterol is good for you etc. i have just finished a review of the statin drugs used to treat cholesterol and why they are of no value. that will be going up next week. have a look if you get the chance. these are relatively long but is there a mechanism to put them up on ning? i will try to find it. thanks again. www.drdingle.com

Hi Cindy,
Just got your message. Sorry I haven't checked for awhile. That's okay if your running for a couple of hours the weekend we're down at your place. Maybe we can do something with the kids.
Love,
Mom
