Amen! Connie. I am 49 and feel the same way. Obesity is out of control. What a perfect place to focus on. The other big culprit is the food industry. Educating individuals on making better choices and portion control. I have always felt if I can touch one individual who can touch a few family members we are making strides. Keep up your efforts and endeavors.

Hi Connie,
That is FANTASTIC! Keep up the great work! Maybe you could post the list here as well for other parents too! It would be greatly appreciated. When I was going to school for teaching Early Childhood Education I was appauled by so many lessons that used CANDY, M&M"S etc. so much junk...no wonder the kids are bouncing off the walls and then "labeled ADHD!!" It is time for great change instead of meds!

Yeah, all these storms are coming quick...we need the rain so I'm just focusing on that and visualizing just refreshing rain and wind!!!

Hi Connie,

I live in Fort Lauderdale and I applaud your passion for creating change in the schools as well as at home. Thankfully, my son goes to a Montesorri school and they make it a policy to bring healthy food and snacks. However, you still run into the issue with what is healthy and what some "think" is healthy! I dread taking my son to birthday parties as that is the one time I allow him to follow along with what ever is offered, but it always turns out to be a disaster as his body isn't accustomed to candy, high fructose corn syrup, colorings etc. and it wrecs havoc on him and us! I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Nicole,
I am also in the PTA board. I figure I have to be smart about his and get school administrators and the principal to support me not oppose me so I'll star with snacks and food at class parties and then move onto food in the cafeteria.
I'll recommend at the first PTA meeting to send a how a list of suggested snacks and party treats in an effort to better serve our kids nutrition.
I'll let you know how it goes. I have two women in the PTA supporting me so I'm hoping that will help.

Hi,
I've joined the PTO board this year at my son's schools so that I can be more supportive in the area of nutrition and all around care at the school. I hope you have some great tips or start a blog as I love learning new ways to offer suggestions to the school. Kind Regards, Nicole

What about nutrition interests you?
Educating people about the importance of good nutrition. Educating parents and teachers on the health effects of high fructose corn syrup, aritficial sweeteners, food coloring and hydrogenated oils so schools will stop offering this junk to our kids and help fight the obesity epidemic.
About Me:
UPDATE! I still live in Florida however I am now homeschooling my girl and moved my boy to a private school. Unfortunately it was not just the food that wasn't working out in the public school system. I did presentations for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at the school regarding food prior to leaving. Whether this helped and made a difference I don't know but any contribution to improving the way our kids eat is better than none. I don't have the time now to pursue this interest. I applaud all who invest time in this area and wish change will soon come our way. The future cost of eating the way "we" currently are is too great.
